Cocopelli Surf School - Surf in Gokarna, India
Come and explore Gokarna, one of the rare places in India where you can combine a surf holiday at a beautiful surf spot with exciting cultural highlights awaiting you in Gokarna town.
Gokarna is famous for its beautiful clean beaches and landscapes. The medieval town with the Mahabaleshwar Temple makes Gokarna one of the top Hindu pilgramage centres in India. Nowhere in India it's easier to be part of cultural happenings and colourful festivals while spending a surf and beach holiday far away from the busy tourism of Goa and Kerala.
Chill for some time in a hammock at the beach, have some of the fresh fish, join a real Hindu festival and get invited for a Thali on a banana leaf by a Indian family. Visit the monks in Gokarnas Rama Temple and try some of the healing water coming from a natural source. Explore the beautiful bays of Gokarna on a trekking tour or join a yoga group on the hilltop. A common sight in the season time is the dolphins jumping in the blue ocean along with its beautiful sunsets.
Most of the land in and around Gokarna is being used for farming. From the months of July to October rice, which is one of india's biggest crop, is grown all over here and gives the landscape an incredible green look. From the months of November to May veggies like sweet potato, spinach, watermelon, eggplant, mint, chillis and beans are cultivated here.
Although being less crowded than other tourist destinations in India, you will find everything a travellers heart needs, e.g. banking machines, restaurants, souvenir shops, telephones, laundry services, travel agencies.
